The drone parachute developed by Nippon Kayaku has achieved integration with ArduPilot equipped flight controllers

We proudly announce that our PARASASAFE, the parachute device for industrial drone has achieved integration with ArduPilot equipped flight controllers.

Integration of PARASAFE® with ArduPilot Flight Controllers

“PARASAFE®” is a parachute system designed to safely land drones in emergency situations, providing high safety and reliability. This integration ensures compatibility with flight controllers which are widely adopted by industrial drones such as CubePilot, enabling seamless integration. This will make it easier for more drone operators and companies to adopt “PARASAFE®,” contributing to improved safety in industrial drone operations.

Seamless Integration and Easy Setup

•By using the Parachute command provided in the ArduPilot environment, you can set up the activation of PARASAFE according to the operational use case of the aircraft.
•PARASAFE can be used with flight controllers supported by ArduPilot and ground control stations (Mission Planner, QGroundControl).

Supports both Automatic and Manual Deployment

<Auto Trigger>
When the flight controller detects an abnormal attitude angle or descent speed, all propellers stops, and a PWM signal output is sent to the parachute. PARASAFE receives this PWM signal and instantly deploys the parachute.

<Manual Trigger>
The parachute activation command can be assigned to a switch on the transmitter or ground control station.

In an emergency, pressing the switch by the operator causes the flight controller to stop all propellers and send a PWM signal to the parachute. PARASAFE receives this PWM signal and instantly deploys the parachute.

Operation Method

By operating the switch assigned to the drone’s transmitter, a PWM signal is sent from ArduPilot-compatible flight controllers, such as CubePilot, to the parachute device. The parachute device receives this signal and deploys safely.

Demonstration at ArduPilot Developers Conference 2024

Live demonstration was conducted at the international developer’s conference “ArduPilot Developers Conference 2024” held in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture from October 25-27, 2024.
The demonstration involved deploying the parachute manually on an ILM Quadcopter made by Aero Systems West equipped with the CubePilot hardware stack. The aircraft landed without any damage after the parachute deployment.

The event attracted many drone developers and engineers from around the world, garnering significant interest in the integration of PARASAFE® with ArduPilot flight controllers.
